Hevacomp new CAD package
The
latest Lighting CAD module has now been released for Hevacomp's new CAD package. Lighting
CAD enables you to quickly set up rooms from a DXF file or AutoCAD, then design lighting
systems using a lumen calculation, with point to point computations. Extensive lighting
graphics can be displayed on the drawing including contours, intensity diagrams and 3D
room and building views with wall illuminances. Vertical illuminance can also be computed.
Emergency lighting can be designed. Daylight can be computed and integrated with
artificial lighting. Luminaire schedules can be produced and lighting schemes can be
plotted on the building drawing.
Hevacomp's CAD package also has modules for Ductwork and air conditioning,
Heating, Chilled water, HWS and CWS. Our CAD package builds on the simplicity of our
industry standard Design Database package to enable complete system design and 3D
maodelling to be carried out quickly and efficiently, without the overhead cost of a CAD
package such as AutoCAD on every computer. For full details on what the package can do
contact Nigel Bird on 0114 255 6680 or Paul Demetriou on 0208 346 9309 or email sales@hevacomp.com.
Version 17 update
We have been
shipping Version 17 of Hevacomps Mechanical and Electrical design software for the
past few months. This update has many important features including a complete Auditing
facility to allow tracking of project design tasks, a new air conditioning zoning module
which automatically zones rooms by comparing load profiles through the year.
Hevacomp's extensive databases of emitters,
luminaires and protective device data have been further extended and updated. To make sure
that you are using the latest version of our design software, ring Richard Jones at
Hevacomp Sheffield, telephone 0114 255 6680.
Number one
In the Consultants Market Report survey carried out recently by BSRIA on behalf
of CIBSE, 202 building services consultants were questioned to provide detailed statistics
on market size, profitability, employment and IT use within the building services
industry.
Amongst the host of statistics in the report were figures on
design packages used within the industry. Hevacomp design software was found to be the
most widely used design package throughout the building services industry, with almost
twice as many users as their nearest competitor. In medium to large consultancies, around
three quarters of consultants use Hevacomp design software.
Exhibitions
 Hevacomp
will be at the Total Building Services Show, which will be held on May 15th to 17th at
London Olympia. Our stand number is H20 and we will be showing the new CAD software alond
with the latest versions of our design packages.
We will again be at the Electrex Glasgow
regional exhibition on the 9th and 10th of October at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, our
stand number is 35 and we will be showing our full range of Electrical software, including
our new Electrical CAD modules and all our Mechanical Design software.
Help! New Products

freely available to the HVAC engineer and many manufacturers have updated their product
information on the latest issue. Manufacturers new to Help! or making major amendments
include; Honeywell, DPS, Daikin, Hamworthy, Satchwell, Reznor, Waterloo, Carrier, Cochran
Boilers, Armacell, Mercury Climatic, MHS Boilers, Toshiba, Grundfos, Broag, Heatline,
Viessman, Riopanel, Mitsubishi, Clyde Combustions, Jaga, Ideal Boilers, Woods, Stelrad,
NuAire, Fujitsu, Julian Grant, Brugman, Square D, Actionair, ABB Flakt, Roberts Gordon,
ABS, JET Environmental, Actionair, ebm-Ziehl, Stulz, Siemens, Potterton and Eaton Williams
all who have included comprehensive product portfolios.
Help! Blowing Hot and Cold
Whether you require a boiler or
chiller, radiator or air conditioning unit, Help! can provide the answer, as this issue
sees major contributions from Trane, Mitsubishi and York in the chiller and air
conditioning categories. Simple questions in these 0categories allow you to refine
selection to meet your specification, whether its a R407C, water-cooled chiller or a
dual fuel, steel shell boiler. With over 70 chillers, boilers, radiators and over 140 air
conditioning units to select from, Help! will provide the answer. Add to this the
opportunity of automatically dialling up manufacturers web sites or emailing them
directly and Help! becomes the ideal engineers companion.
Help! radiator schedule
Help! has a free radiator
schedule package, which integrates technical, specification and graphical data from a
large number of radiator manufacturers. The schedule program is used after heat losses
have been computed and enables radiators to be selected and a printed schedule to be
produced for rooms.
The room reference and heat loss are specified, together with the room temperature and
the mean water temperature. A large range of radiator type will be displayed for
selection. The list of radiators can be changed by specifying options, for example the Style
option enables only say single panel radiators to be displayed, whilst the Standard
option can show only EN442 standard radiators. The Any options will show all types
available.
A hot key link to Help! data is provided, so that you can immediately check out product
information on the Help! CD for the radiator range that is currently selected.
Radiator solutions are displayed, and the height and length can be changed as required.
If a radiator is acceptable, press the Accept radiator button and it will be added
to the schedule for the room. Any number of radiators may be added for a room. When you
have finished with the room, press the Print Schedule key if required. If you wish to work
on another room, press the Clear Schedule key and enter data for the new room. A
radiator schedule for all the rooms entered will be printed when you press the Finish
button.

Software solutions
As technology
changes within the manufacturing industry and products become more complex, the selection
process also becomes more difficult. Many manufacturers are now turning to the electronic
catalogue, which can incorporate product selection software and comprehensive product
details, to simplify product selection and specification.
Hevacomp are able to provide these software solutions and have worked with many leading
manufacturers including Hitachi, Ideal Boilers and NuAire. The most recent production is
the new MHS CD incorporating the full range of MHS products and Fastrack CAD drawings.
Ian Bradley of MHS commented, "As a pro-active company it is vital that we embrace
the new technology that enables us to provide an ever improving service to our clients.
Hevacomp have developed the MHS CD for us which allows the consultant to view technical
information, select the appropriate product and integrate it into his CAD system. MHS is
fully committed to provide the information the client requires in the format that is most
suitable and an interactive CD is part of that policy."
For more information on CD software contact Stephen Brown on 0114 255 6680 or email sales@hevacomp.com.
The Help! CPD directory
Continued Professional Development (CPD) is starting to have a major influence during
the career of an engineer and the CIBSE have issued guidelines indicating how engineers
can fulfil this requirement.
It is becoming increasingly difficult for engineers to take time during the working day
to further their knowledge but it is recognised that self assessment and "on the
job" learning can provide the 30 hour minimum requirement. But how can this be
achieved?
Manufacturers have a wealth of technical knowledge in their particular field of
expertise and many are now offering seminars at engineers' offices. As a consequence we
have teamed up with some of the industries leading manufacturers to bring you the CPD
Directory on the Help! CD. If a subject is of interest, just contact the manufacturer
direct, and they will arrange to present a CPD seminar at your offices at a mutually
agreeable time, often during the lunch break. Manufacturers currently offering technical
seminars include:
- Ambi-Rad
- Andover Controls
- Armstrong Insulation
- Baltimore Aircoil
- Belimo
- Hamworthy
- Ideal Boilers
|
- J S Humidifiers
- Lochinvar
- NuAire
- Potterton
- Rehau
- Spirax Sarco
